Passage AI built a natural language understanding platform for conversational agents. Businesses used it to put a chatbot or voice interface on their website, app or messaging platforms that answered customer questions in multiple languages, brought in a human when the bot could not, and handled IT and HR requests by submitting tickets and taking action directly through APIs.

Ravi Raj, Madhu Mathihalli and Mitul Tiwari, who had all worked at Kosmix, founded Passage AI in Mountain View in 2016. It raised $10.3M, including a $7.3M Series A led by Blumberg Capital, and ServiceNow acquired it in 2020 to strengthen Virtual Agent and its AI platform.
